Dr. Wolfgang Kleinwachter

Honorary Professor of Internet Policy and Regulation, Department of Media and Information Studies, Aarhus University.

Wolfgang Kleinwachter, Professor Emeritus of Internet Policy and Regulation at the Department of Media and Information Studies at Aarhus University in Denmark. He works on policy development in the field of cybersecurity and Internet Governance in the context of international relations.

He holds a BA, MA and PhD in communications, international law and international relations from the University of Leipzig. Since 1997, he has been recognized as an expert assessor of the EU programs on data management, cybersecurity and Internet governance. He has been a participant in ICANN conferences since 1999 and played a key role in the development of this organization.

He chaired the Coordination Committee of the European Interregional Information Society Initiative (IRISI), strengthening cooperation in the field of information society in Europe, participated in the research project "The Next Generation Internet" (EURO-NF) and from 2005 to 2010 was a special adviser to the Chairman of the Internet Governance Forum. Since 2006, he has led the evaluation team for the Safer Internet Action Plan (SIAP) of the European Union. In the same year, he became Chairman of the Expert Group on Transborder Internet, actively working to improve international cooperation in the field of Internet Governance.

In 2012, the scientist was awarded the Internet Prize of the German Association for Internet Economy for outstanding contributions to the development of the digital economy. From 2013 to 2015, Wolfgang Kleinwachter was a member of the ICANN Board of Directors, and from 2014 to 2016, he served as a special ambassador for the NetMundial Initiative (NMI), promoting initiatives on global Internet governance.

Since 2016, Wolfgang Kleinwachter has been a member of the Global Commission on Stability in Cyberspace (GCSC).
