As a member of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), he has worked extensively to improve technical standards and network security.

Olaf Kolkman is also a board member and treasurer of the Global Forum on Cyber ​​Expertise (GFCE) and a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Global Cyber ​​Alliance. His achievements include co-development of the RIPE Atlas project, a global network of probes for measuring Internet availability and connectivity, and significant contributions to the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC).
