Stephen D. Crocker

Chairman of the Board of the ICANN Internet Corporation, inventor of the RFC Internet policy format, one of the founders of the technical community of builders of the global Internet

A prominent figure in the field of Internet technology, Stephen D. Crocker has made many contributions to the development of the Internet. As a graduate student at UCLA in the 1960s, Crocker helped develop the protocols for the ARPANET, which became the foundation of the modern Internet, and later gained fame as the inventor of the Internet Policy Format RFC, which has become the standard for documenting technical specifications.

Over the course of his career, Crocker has held important positions, including serving as Chairman of the ICANN Board in 2011-2017, as a program manager at DARPA, as the founder and director of the Computer Science Laboratory at the Aerospace Corporation, and as a vice president of Trusted Information Systems. He has also served as the Director of Security for the Internet Engineering Task Force, as well as a member of the Internet Architecture Board and the Internet Society Board. Steve Crocker's achievements have been recognized by numerous awards, including the IEEE Internet Award in 2002 and induction into the Internet Society's Internet Hall of Fame in 2012.
