Director General of the ANO Internet Development Institute (ANO IDI)
Member of the Expert Council at the State Duma Committee on Informational Policy, Information Technology and Communications, the Council for the Development of Digital Economy at the Federation Council, and the Presidential Council for the Implementation of State Policy on Protecting Family and Children. Chair of the Council of the Coordination Center for Top Level Domains (Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ).
Before that, Sergei Petrov was in charge of the Media Communications Union (MKS) and chaired the Internet + Media subgroup of the Presidential Executive Office Working Group on the Use of Internet in the Economy. He has extensive experience working in the media. From 1995 to 2016, he held key positions at CTC Media, where in the last few years he was Deputy Director General in charge of asset management and the broadcasting network.
1994: Graduated from the Tupolev Kazan Aviation Institute with a degree in optical design engineering. Specialization: optical engineering and electro- optics.
1995: Employed by CTC Media as Director General of its Kazan branch (TV 6), which he successfully managed for three years, after which he was offered a position at the corporate headquarters of CTC Media.
1998: Senior Manager at the CTC Development Department; a month later, promoted to Director of the CTC Development and External Relations Department; a year later, promoted to Director of the CTC Sales Department. He created the best commercial service on the market and strengthened the group’s trade alliance with Video International. The holding’s revenue grew faster than the advertising market. CTC sales reached an all-time high.
2002-2006: CTC Deputy Director General; in 2005, combined this position with the position of Deputy Director General of the Domashny television network.
2006: Head of CTC Region and Marafon TV; within three years, CTC Region increased its broadcasting network from 30 to 100 cities, boosting the value of its assets.
2008: CTC Deputy Director General for Regional Development in charge of asset management and infrastructure development in the CTC broadcasting cities; Deputy Director General at ZAO CTC, ZAO Novy Kanal (Domashny TV network) and ZAO TV Daryal, and Director General of ZAO CTC Region.
2010: Vice-President and Board member of the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters (NAT).
2013: Took part in the establishment of the Media Communications Union (subsequently renamed Media Communication Alliance, MCA or MKS), a nonprofit partnership for promoting the development of the media and communications industry. December 5, 2013: Elected President of MKS as the association of major media companies and the providers of communication and pay television services. MKS provides professional assessments of major legislative initiatives for regulating the operation of media and communications sectors.
2016: Director General of the Television Industry Committee (TIC or IKT) Association of Television Broadcasters and Advertising Industry Professionals. The TIC outlined and adopted strategic goals, tasks and priorities in the development of media content audience measurement in all transmission media, bringing together major media holdings (Channel One, VGTRK, NMG, Gazprom Media Holding and CTC Media) as well as professionals of advertising companies (the RusBrand Association of Branded Goods Manufacturers in Russia, the Russian Association of Communication Agencies (RACA) and the National Advertising Alliance (NRA)). The TIC provides a platform for discussing current issues related to the development of television audience measurement in Russia.
